About this grant
The project goal is to develop the community foundation field and strengthen infrastructure for community foundations in Europe. In collaboration with national and European community philanthropy support organizations, Bundesverband Deutscher Stiftungen will manage and develop the European Community Foundation Initiative. Working with its partners, the grantee will strengthen the capacity of existing community foundations and their associations; promote the community foundation concept and facilitate the establishment of new community foundations; and strengthen the visibility and representation of community foundations vis-à-vis the public sector on the national and European levels. During the previous grant period, the grantee provided learning and exchange services to more than 250 community foundation practitioners from 19 European countries through study visits, bilateral exchanges, and thematic meetings. In addition, the grantee organized the first European conference of community foundations and published an overview of the field in Europe, as well as specific guides to the national community foundation movements in Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom. The grantee is based in Berlin, Germany.
