About this grant

The Casual Workers Advice Office was established in 2011 to give free legal advice to workers who have been dismissed or face other labor violations by their employers in South Africa. Past support assisted the Casual Workers Advice Office to 1) raise awareness of new labor rights among precarious workers and support them in accessing these rights; 2) support workers whose disputes have been referred to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration and bargaining councils; 3) produce resources and general educational materials; and 4) hire additional staff and train existing staff. Ongoing support will allow the grantee to continue to offer advice and support to workers whose rights have been violated, undertake litigation by using its in-house counsel, and train and support community advice offices on various aspects of labor laws.
