About this grant

The Catawba-Wateree Relicensing Coalition was created to protect, enhance and restore the Catawba-Wateree river basin. With the negotiation process currently under way for relicensing 13 large hydroelectric dams on the Catawba-Wateree river system in North and South Carolina, the coalition promotes a collaborative approach to the relicensing process.Multiyear funding will enable the coalition to sponsor two workshops addressing various aspects of habitat protection and management; promote the protection and enhancement of biodiversity; review settlement agreements from other relicensings to gain insight; and identify biologically significant lands for conservation efforts.Through the coalition, approximately 50 organizations have engaged in the relicensing process, encouraging a collaborative approach to the relicensing process.
