About this grant

The Centre for Peace, Nonviolence and Human Rights Osijek is a key non-governmental organization (NGO) whose mission is to promote nonviolence and citizen participation in bringing about positive social change and the development of democracy in Croatia. The center focuses on four program areas: promotion and protection of human rights; peace education and psychosocial development; peace building and community development; and development of the nonprofit sector and civil society.Multiyear funding will enable the center to pursue objectives that include maximizing work in the four program areas; developing the capacity to have a greater impact on public policy and shaping public opinion; implementing a quality assurance system; building training and education capacities; and exploring the establishment of a community or regional foundation.Recent accomplishments included promoting regional cooperation and multiculturism with neighboring towns in the cross-border region of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia and Montenegro; introducing mediation services in primary schools in two communities; introducing community self-organizing in war-affected areas in eastern Croatia; helping organize a network of four NGOs to provide resources to NGOs; and establishing an NGO forum.
