About this grant

The Charities Aid Foundation-Southern Africa was established to promote corporate and individual philanthropy in South Africa and the broader southern African region. It focuses on mobilizing resources for, and examining ways to improve, the nonprofit sector in the region.Multiyear funding will enable the foundation to continue programs, such as Give as You Earn and Matched Giving, and work to strengthen itself organizationally. Activities will include organizing at least two training and capacity-building workshops each year for the corporate and nonprofit sectors on the Give as Your Earn and Matched Giving programs; expanding corporate volunteering programs; working to upgrade and improve its grantmaking and grant tracking systems; increasing the tax exemption provisions to cover more forms of giving; and completing the Code of Good Governance project for nonprofit organizations.During the past two years, the foundation mobilized approximately $916,000 to support the nonprofit sector; increased the number of corporations expanding their corporate investment programs; and hosted a workshop to discuss the role of grantmaking in community development and poverty reduction.
