About this grant
Throughout much of Central/Eastern Europe there is a critical lack of interest and willingness of citizens to participate in democratic institutions. This is especially true regarding general elections and the political process. With general elections scheduled to be held in September, there is a pressing need to encourage citizens in Slovakia to vote.Funding will support a project to motivate young and first-time voters. The key slogan of the project, "It Matters to Us," will be complemented by several other campaigns that will also focus on the importance of the vote. The project will be launched at a press conference in May followed by a multi-faceted campaign including television spots, concerts and printed media.Civic Eye, established in 1998, has participated in various campaigns. The Campaign for Access to Information led to the parliamentary approval of a progressive act on access to information in Slovakia.
