About this grant
Community Foundations of Canada, a membership association of 123 community foundations, works to provide professional and technical assistance to members, raise the visibility of the community foundation movement and strengthen philanthropic leadership in Canada.Multiyear funding will support goals that include providing information and training opportunities to members by upgrading on-line materials; planning a national conference in 2004 in Quebec; developing a campaign to help members educate donors and professional advisor groups; and continuing educational outreach and public policy efforts that impact federal and provincial government entities. Funding includes a grant increase to enable Community Foundations of Canada to form an alliance between a major Canadian financial institution and community foundations across the country. Under the alliance, bank clients will be referred to local community foundations to establish donor-advised funds, with the bank managing the investment and the community foundation providing donor education and grantmaking services.Accomplishments during the past two years included conducting professional development workshops for staff and directors of Canadian community foundations; launching a Web site for new members; increasing media coverage locally and nationally; informing the federal government on policy issues affecting community foundations; leading Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support (WINGS) community foundations activities; and creating a task force to work on membership compliance.
