About this grant

In order to address declining economic assets and create new jobs, the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth (MDLEG) is reshaping its economic development and workforce delivery systems. The Corporation for a Skilled Workforce, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, has developed a project to help plan the implementation of the state’s restructuring plan.Funding will enable the corporation to support the planning and development of capacity building for MDLEG integrated functions, as well as the new role of local workforce boards in the workforce development system; create a state entrepreneurship communication strategy and develop other pilot program initiatives; develop a detailed implementation strategy for Regional Skill Alliances; and assist in the design of a "Work First Plus" framework for better integration of federal welfare and workforce guidelines. The Corporation for a Skilled Workforce was established in 1991 as a workforce development policy and change management organization. Its mission is to help communities succeed in a knowledge and skill-driven economy.
