About this grant

The project has enabled the Council of Chief State School Officers to build the capacity of state education agencies to assume responsibility for and administration of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) initiative and to expand the network of state and district education officials implementing and/or replicating high quality afterschool programs.Multiyear funding will allow the council to support the development of statewide afterschool networks; provide ongoing technical assistance to state education agencies on how to manage and implement the 21st CCLC initiative and ensure quality and sustainable school-based/school-linked afterschool programs; and research and disseminate effective summer school practices connected to initiatives that improve academic achievement.Activities during the past year included sponsoring two national meetings; leading workshops; developing brochures: and publishing articles in a monthly newsletter.
