About this grant
Community foundations benefit greatly from opportunities that offer networking, peer-to-peer learning and mutual skills building. The Council on Foundations (COF) has been providing U.S. community foundations with professional development conferences for nearly two decades. However, the situation is different in other countries. Canada and the United Kingdom only conduct their national conferences every other year. In addition, community foundation leaders around the world face globalization challenges that require face-to-face peer networking.Multiyear funding will support the establishment of a scholarship fund to assist community foundation leaders in attending conferences that they otherwise could not attend. Scholarships will be for two categories of participants: senior staff and board members of foreign community foundation and community foundation support organizations; and senior staff of small U.S. community foundations who would benefit from professional development opportunities but do not have the necessary funds.COF, founded in 1949, is a membership organization of private, community and corporate foundations dedicated to promoting responsible and effective philanthropy.
