About this grant
The Desmond Tutu Peace Trust was founded in 1998 by Tutu, who used his leadership to support ideals that led to peace and a better future for all South Africans. The Leadership Academy was formed to develop personal leadership and promote organizational vision and excellence in southern Africa. In 2000, the trust held a pilot training course for 10 women in Cape Town and by 2001, the trust had developed a four-day residential course to bring women leaders together.Multiyear funding will enable the trust to continue the leadership development program for women; expand the program to Swaziland; initiate writing collectives to record the experiences of women leaders; provide training for program facilitators; launch a mentorship program; and conduct an evaluation of the course.Between 2000 and 2001, three Women in Leadership courses were conducted and a total of 55 women attended the three four-day residential program training sessions.
