About this grant
This grant will provide partial support to the Detroit Entrepreneurship Institute to continue to provide business development services and technical assistance to individuals receiving public assistance, dislocated workers, and the working poor. Since October 1990, nearly 6,400 adults and youth have enrolled in business training programs and 749 are now operating their own small enterprises. Over the past 15 years, it has become the only business development organization in the city of Detroit with a demonstrated history of targeting welfare clients and, as such, won the Presidential Award for Excellence in Micro-enterprise Development in 1999.
