About this grant

This grant will enable the Detroit Entrepreneurship Institute to continue providing business development services and technical assistance to low-income individuals. To accomplish its mission of alleviating poverty through entrepreneurship, the institute created a comprehensive one-stop approach to developing and delivering entrepreneurial skill-building services.Funding will support entrepreneurial training, small business development, technical assistance and start-up capital. Additional funding will enable the Detroit Entrepreneurship Institute to host a gathering of national funders interested in the U.S. micro-enterprise development field.Since its establishment in 1990, nearly 6,400 adults and youth have enrolled in business training programs and 749 are currently operating their own small businesses. In 2001, the institute expanded to Pontiac, where it provides the same level of services to that city’s low-income residents.
