About this grant
The Eastern Cape NGO Coalition plays a vital role in facilitating, supporting and promoting the work of its constituent organizations in the province. Founded in 1995, it is the oldest of the nine provincial coalitions of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in South Africa.Multiyear funding will enable the organization to enhance the capacity of nonprofits to address poverty eradication and democratic processes; strengthen the ability of nonprofits to engage with government and seek partnership opportunities; provide information to nonprofits that will improve coordination, capacity and effectiveness; support the South African NGO Coalition; produce a monthly newsletter, "Sisonke"; and continue to serve as the lead partner for the Strengthening Capacities and Exercising Rights (SCAPE) Program in the Eastern Cape.Accomplishments during the past two years included increasing membership to almost 300 organizations; developing a skilled and dedicated staff; establishing functioning, active structures in all seven regions of the province; being chosen as the lead partner in the SCAPE Program; providing organizational development services to its members; and mobilizing resources and support for nonprofits in the province.
