About this grant
Through this grant the Ecological Club of Transylvania will continue promoting sustainable community development in the Apuseni Mountains Natural Park region of Romania. In 2002, the club began implementing the project in partnership with three other ecological non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The project promotes a comprehensive, long-term approach to addressing community needs through active participation of all stakeholders.Multiyear funding will enable the club to encourage participation of community members in decisionmaking related to the park; support the development and implementation of volunteer-led community action plans to address economic, environmental and social issues; provide training to community leaders on sustainable development and community engagement issues; and document and disseminate the experiences at the local, regional and national levels.Accomplishments since 2002 included assisting NGOs in conducting regional forums, monitoring local action plans, and identifying and developing community leaders; organizing regional forums in each of four microregions to identify needs and prepare community action plans; supporting 37 community action plans; and conducting a leadership workshop for 13 local leaders.
