About this grant

Since its creation in 1998, the Economic Opportunity Institute has focused on developing pragmatic, incremental policies that build income security for low-income working families. The institute designs new public policies; educates and engages the public in citizen activism; and works with elected officials to implement effective public policy.Multiyear funding will support objectives that include working on systemic advancement of early learning and care for preschool children; promoting incremental advances in health care coverage with the goal of universal health coverage for childcare workers and laid-off workers; convening policy discussions, research and public conversations on family leave insurance in Washington state; advocating for childcare worker advancement; generating state-based policy to enable universal pension access for all workers for national replication; and identifying state policy that creates economic stimulus.During the past year, efforts have included advancing and expanding key policy initiatives; engaging in media outreach efforts to effectively educate the public and opinion makers about new policy proposals; and convening the newly established National Transitional Jobs Network.
