About this grant

One critical challenge facing the continued development of the Slovak nonprofit sector is the availability of high-quality educational courses for staff of both new and experienced organizations. Although there are several institutions that provide training and formal educational courses to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), they face similar obstacles that include developing the organization’s capacity to track changes in the educational needs of NGOs and delivering improved courses; combining practical experience with theory; institutionalizing education for NGOs without losing flexibility; ensuring that lecturers have continued learning opportunities; and ensuring the financial basis for courses.Multiyear funding will support efforts to enable the Educational Centre for Non-profit Organizations to become a national educational, publishing and research center. Activities will include completing a strategic planning process; conducting surveys and focus group discussions to define the center’s position in the field of education; strengthening cooperation with existing foreign partners; and purchasing necessary technical equipment and renovating facilities. The center was founded in 1998 to assist NGOs in becoming more professional and sustainable by improving available educational programs.
