About this grant
Since 1989, thousands of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have been established in Hungary to provide social services to the needy, mobilize citizens to improve their lives and promote other public purposes. Currently, there is a need for the Hungarian nonprofit sector to strengthen intra-sector cooperation and build representative structure at the local, regional and national level.Multiyear funding will support activities that include strengthening participatory democracy and improving the effectiveness of NGO cooperation through regular discussions of issues debated by the local self-government in Eger; seeking citizen opinion and input through public forums; promoting intra-sector cooperation at the county level by sharing experience of the work in Eger; providing training and advice on advocacy and intra-sector cooperation to two other counties; and documenting examples of NGO cooperation throughout all 17 counties of Hungary. The Eletfa Environmental Protection Association, founded in 1989, offers a wide range of programs to solve concrete environmental problems and organize environmental education activities for students. In addition to its environmental work, the association has been involved in establishing and expanding a forum of 67 local NGOs and operating the Nonprofit Information Service Center.
