About this grant
European Roma Rights Center is an international organization that advocates for and defends the rights of the transnational, diverse Roma community throughout Europe. The center conducts research, monitoring and education programs; organizes conferences; and campaigns for Roma rights on specific issues.Multiyear funding will support objectives that include developing human rights training capacity within Roma communities with emphasis on the right to education; raising awareness within Roma communities of the importance of education and equal educational opportunities; and generating community support for concrete actions to overcome educational discrimination.Recent achievements included raising the legal consciousness of targeted Roma communities, especially the younger generation; enabling Roma communities to exercise their rights more effectively, particularly when dealing with public authorities; and developing contacts and cooperation among the local municipality and members of Roma communities.
