About this grant
A recipient of the 2002 Governor’s Award for the Arts in Michigan, the Flint Youth Theatre (FYT) was identified as one of four model youth theater programs in the country. FYT directs a Signature Series of six productions annually and presents performances of touring productions for family and school audiences through the Big Adventure Series, the Squiggle Wiggle Series, the Learning Through Theatre Series and the Off the Press Series.Multiyear funding will allow FYT to continue to provide educational, innovative and comprehensive theater arts experience to children, youth and adults in the greater Flint community to develop their creative potential and improve human relations.FYT was created in 1957 and is housed at Bower Theatre in the Flint Cultural Center. It serves more than 50,000 children and young people annually through performances, classes, workshops and curriculum-related field trips.
