About this grant

Currently, there are almost nine million migrants, refugees and internally displaced persons in Russia. While most of these are ethnic Russians from Central Asia, the Baltics and the Southern Caucasus who no longer feel welcome in other former Soviet countries, some are non-ethnic Russians searching for better economic opportunities and others have been displaced by prior or current conflicts. Almost all face difficulties in obtaining social and economic protection.Multiyear funding will support objectives that include cooperating with ministries of the Russian Federation to develop migration policies; building the capacity of member non-governmental organizations (NGOs); building internal capacity; and publishing articles on migrant issues in local and national mass media. The Forum of Migrants’ Organizations, established in 1996, is an umbrella association of 287 Russian NGOs from 53 regions of Russia.
