About this grant

The Academy of Local Development was created to train Ukrainian nonprofit, business and government leaders in community development skills. The goal of the project is to transfer the program to a Ukrainian institution.Fourth-year funding will enable the academy to transfer the program to the Consortium of Regional and Local Development Institutions of Transcarpathia, which includes seven local development organizations in the Transcarpathian region. Activities will include recruiting Ukrainian trainers; conducting a three-day training session on the philosophy and methodology of the academy; developing training cycles for additional students from 12 Ukrainian towns; and integrating alumni into existing networks of local development leaders.Since 2000, accomplishments included developing a curriculum for small cities and towns; selecting 18 towns in western, central and eastern Ukraine for program replication; and conducting one training cycle annually for each group of six towns.
