About this grant
This grant will enable Foundations to develop and pilot comprehensive professional development opportunities that will enrich the capacity of afterschool staff through Afterschool Academies. Building on existing expertise of numerous partners across the country, Foundations will initiate and pilot Afterschool Academies, which will offer a comprehensive approach to professional development that supports and enriches the capacity of afterschool staff to function as afterschool educators. Funding will support the efforts of Afterschool Academies to build the capacity of afterschool educators, as well as that of school personnel, community organizations and others, to design, implement, evaluate and manage afterschool programs to support student success. The project will focus on integrating the nonformal, experiential and developmental approaches of afterschool with school-based content and skills, and partner with others to make this integration common practice in the field. During the pilot phase the infrastructure needed to support the Afterschool Academies will be developed and content-based professional development will be piloted with afterschool staff and refined as needed.
