About this grant

The Human Rights Training Center was established in 1997 to provide in-depth training to human rights activists and representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), mainly from the former Soviet Union. Multiyear funding will enable the center to conduct at least 20 training seminars each year; provide small grants and supervision for local projects; develop new curricula to cope with new needs; broaden the number of trainers from former Soviet Union countries; recruit new trainers; and organize six additional seminars for activists in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.Since its inception, the center has organized seminars, courses and workshops for more than 3,500 participants from more than 30 countries. In 2001, the organization published a handbook on human rights monitoring in Polish, Russian and English.
