About this grant
Currently, the southern area is the least developed region of the Slovakia. The nonprofit sector is in the early stages of development with only 5 percent of Slovakia’s non-governmental organizations (NGOs) registered there. NGOs and informal citizen groups of southern Slovakia have not received help from technical assistance programs, NGO resource centers and grantmaking organizations.Multiyear funding will support efforts to strengthen civil society and build the capacity of NGOs in southern Slovakia; develop local democracy by encouraging regional development and cross-sector cooperation; and promote philanthropy by providing information on the option of citizens giving 1 percent of their income tax to NGOs.The Information Centre was established in 1999 to oversee the NGO-related programs of the Forum Institute for Social Studies. The center provides services to NGOs, informal civic groups and local governments in southern Slovakia.
