About this grant
In response to the poverty and poor living conditions of many Texas residents in the early 1980s, the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) began working through congregations to develop local leaders into active and engaged citizens in their communities. These leaders identified issues of concern, conducted research on those issues and established relationships with allies to join them in advocating for community improvements. By the late 1980s, IAF-affiliated organizations throughout the state began working to combine resources and launch the Interfaith Education Fund (IEF), a new statewide organization created to meet the shared needs of local organizations.Funding will enable IEF to build the capacity of local community organizations as well as support the formation of statewide alliances. Activities will include offering training, supervision, evaluation and research in response to local needs. IEF, established in 1989, provides professional organizing, research and technical support to local IAF affiliates.
