About this grant
Multiyear funding will support the operation and maintenance of the International Institute for three years. The institute serves approximately 3,200 immigrants annually by providing legal counseling, language and citizenship classes, and translation and interpretation services. In addition, the institute provides foreign language instruction, visa and passport application assistance, special events and lectures, and cultural orientation and sensitivity training sessions to other individuals.The International Institute, established in 1922 as a foreign community department of the YWCA to serve Flint’s growing immigrant population, was incorporated as an independent nonprofit organization in 1941. It is dedicated to promoting intercultural understanding among Flint and Genesee County residents.
