About this grant

This grant provides continued support to the International Society for Third-Sector Research, a global membership association with over 1,000 members from more than 80 countries that encourages, supports, and provides academic legitimacy to the study of civil society. Founded in 1992 and based at Johns Hopkins University, the society’s major accomplishments include convening biennial international research conferences; publishing special reports, conference working papers, and a scholarly journal; and convening regional meetings of research networks on various continents. In mid-2018, the society became an independent nonprofit, which continues to be supported by Johns Hopkins University. This grant increase will provide partial resources needed to support a May 2019 seminar for PhD students from across Africa, with the Wits Business School’s Center for Philanthropy and Social Investment.
