About this grant
Helping Individuals Reenter through Employment Network (HIRE), a project of the Legal Action Center, works to increase the number of job opportunities available to individuals with criminal records. The network monitors and conducts public education on national policies that affect former-offender employment; disseminates data among constituencies; and promotes networking within the field through conferences and publications.Funding will enable the network to serve as a national clearinghouse for information and technical assistance for nonprofit and government agencies working to improve labor market outcomes for ex-offenders; expand opportunities for nonprofit and government staff to network and collaborate; monitor and provide leadership on key public policy initiatives at both the federal and state levels; identify and monitor research and evaluation data that strengthens practice and improves employment opportunities for ex-offenders; recruit employer and labor participation in promoting labor market opportunities for people with criminal records; and promote National HIRE Network goals.Recent accomplishments included launching a Web site; advocating for legislation to address the employment barriers faced by ex-offenders; and encouraging inclusion of the needs of hard-to-serve populations in federal policy discussions around the reauthorization of the Workforce Investment Act and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families.
