About this grant

The goal of the program is to develop local independent broadcasters’ programmatic and technical capacity for creative, community-oriented, public service programming, particularly in border regions and areas of ethnic diversity in the country.Funding will support efforts to nurture independent radio outlets committed to community-based programming. Activities will include awarding small grants for public service and community-based programming to up to 10 independent radio outlets; providing technical training to grantees in cooperation with Belgrade’s largest independent radio station; encouraging grantees to share programming; and working with grantees on a one-to-one basis on technical capacity and program development.During the past year, the fund provided small grants totaling almost $78,000 to seven independent radio outlets in Serbia, Kosovo and Montenegro. This resulted in more than 540 hours of public service-oriented broadcasting between June and November 2001.
