The Metropolitan Planning Council is one of the Great Lakes region’s leading urban policy agencies. The grantee is based in Chicago and provides leadership on a range of issues at the local, state, and Great Lakes regional level. With previous support, the grantee has been developing and presenting its Drinking Water 1-2-3 Guide to local decision makers, has developed innovative water affordability assessment tools, and has been a leader in finding solutions to prevent Asian carp from migrating into Lake Michigan via the Chicago River. With renewed support, the grantee will: a) continue working to reduce lead in drinking water; b) release a water rate affordability study and promote on-the-ground implementation of best practices; c) roll out drinking water technical assistance training; d) research opportunities for appropriate water and effluent reuse; e) share lessons learned throughout the Great Lakes; and f) continue to drive forward initiatives to block Asian carp migration.
