About this grant

The city of Flint continues to face a significant public safety challenge. Crime and violence across the city remains high, while the city’s ongoing budget crisis has caused a simultaneous reduction in the police force and public safety resources. With technical assistance from Michigan State University’s Department of Criminology, the city of Flint’s emergency manager and a new police chief have outlined a public safety plan that aims to address public safety issues in Flint. This grant increase will support the fourth year of training, technology enhancements, technical assistance, and evaluation to assist the city of Flint in implementing important changes in its police department and other public safety functions.
