About this grant

Michigan Trout Unlimited is a premier group protecting cold water and healthy aquatic habitat in the Great Lakes State. With previous support from the Mott Foundation, the grantee has helped secure Michigan and neighboring states’ support for preventing invasive carp and other species from damaging Great Lakes water resources and has been the leader of efforts to review and reform state programs to manage water use and withdrawals. Today, these threats continue and the failure of dams near Midland in 2020 underscore the need for better approaches to dam management and removal. With renewed grant support, the grantee will lead efforts to review and refresh water withdrawal processes and programs, help stave off invasive species and seek to restore Michigan rivers by removing dams.
