About this grant

The program support the activities of 22 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia and Yugoslavia. Program objectives include raising public awareness of minorities and their rights; encouraging cooperation among representatives of different communities throughout the region; building local capacity to implement domestic and international minority standards; and addressing local problems through domestic policy and international forums.Multiyear funding will support activities that include conducting training workshops for minority-rights activists on advocacy and minority rights; facilitating regional meetings and workshops in each country to address key concerns of minority communities; publishing and disseminating various materials on minority rights; monitoring the implementation of international instruments and domestic legislation policies for minority protection; and providing ongoing training and technical assistance to all 22 NGOs.Key achievements during the past three years included strengthening the network of the 22 NGO partner organizations; conducting workshops and meetings between different sectors to discuss problems and strategies to improve the lives of minorities; and encouraging the participation of minorities in international forums both within the European and international systems.
