About this grant

The Youth Opportunity Grants Leadership Institute incorporates hands-on training by those with firsthand experience and training in working with and providing services to youth. Through classroom training, peer mentoring and distance learning strategies, the institute educates practitioners about youth development models, promising practices and practical applications for using youth employment strategies.Multiyear funding will support activities that include refining and expanding curriculum and course offerings; evaluating the project’s impact in local communities; building national and local partnerships with colleges and universities; and increasing fund development for enhanced self-sufficiency.Since 2000, accomplishments included planning and convening five national institutes; training more than 1,600 youth practitioners; developing advanced level courses to increase the depth and understanding of more effective ways to provide services to economically and educationally challenged out-of-school youth; and creating customized training services to meet the needs of specific local communities.
