About this grant

The Community Involvement Program provides strategic support to community groups working to increase the accountability of schools for improving educational outcomes. The program provides technical assistance on educational issues to a range of service organizations involved in education organizing.Multiyear funding will enable the program to continue to increase public involvement in public education by supporting current and emerging efforts sponsored by community-based organizations. Activities include adding three partner community organizations to the network; establishing relationships with three youth organizing groups; launching a series of five advanced leadership training sessions and one fall conference; and working with four school districts outside of New York that are involved in high school reform to develop parent engagement strategies.Recent accomplishments included supporting the development of coalitions that are able to respond to the multiple levels of decisionmaking in the New York City school system; working to improve District 9 Schools; producing a newsletter that examines issues of school reform; and convening a monthly meeting of New York City community organizers.
