About this grant

The Nonprofit Enterprise and Self-Sustainability Team (NESsT) Venture Fund was created to assist non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in four Central European countries to strengthen their financial sustainability.Multiyear funding will support activities that include working with existing NESsT Venture Fund portfolio members on priority areas of social enterprise development; developing the pipeline of prospective Venture Fund portfolio members to expand the current portfolio to at least six members by 2003; increasing membership in the Investors Circle and the Business Advisory Network to support portfolio members; and building the organizational and staff capacity of the Budapest office and consolidating activities in Europe.Since 1998, accomplishments included completing intensive research in participating countries; developing appropriate capacity-building tools and services to assist NGOs in self-financing enterprises; providing assistance to several NGOs for self-financing enterprises; promoting venture philanthropy in the region; and involving international and indigenous businesses and young professionals in philanthropic activities through the Business Advisory Network and short-term internships.
