The Ohio Environmental Council is a premier conservation advocacy organization in the state. With previous support, the grabtee has focused attention on Lake Erie and its pollution problems and led efforts to improve Lake Erie communities by restoring coastal ecosystems. Recently, the grantee has turned more attention to drinking water, lead contamination, and affordability of clean, safe water supplies. With renewed support, the Ohio Environmental Council will build on these efforts while forging a stronger relationship with the agricultural sector in Ohio to find common ground on Lake Erie’s pollution problems. Goals for this grant include restoring and protecting Lake Erie from major threats like toxic algae, other pollutants, and Asian carp; ensuring the Lake Erie basin’s next generation has safe, clean and affordable drinking water; and building a network of supporters for clean, safe, and affordable water supplies.
