About this grant

The foundation of the institute’s work is its "Undoing Racism" program that is based on the idea that racism in the United States has been consciously and systematically constructed and therefore can be "undone." The institute maintains that if people understand when, how and why racism began, and how it functioned and still functions, they can develop a greater sense of their own power and leadership in the communities most affected by racism.Multiyear funding will enable the institute to continue to build organizational and programmatic capacity to ensure its ability to carry out the work of removing the barrier of racism. Objectives include developing the undoing-racism process to impact various sectors and groups that influence the U.S. national agenda; exploring the feasibility of working with corporations interested in undoing racism work beyond prior diversity training programs; moving the national office to regional offices and organizing committees in various cities; and expanding the national funding base.
