About this grant

During the past few years, the project has helped establish state micro-enterprise associations (SMAs) that connect micro-enterprise practitioners with colleagues in order to secure state funding for micro-enterprise programs; conduct comprehensive training initiatives to increase the level of micro-enterprise practice and capacity in states; raise awareness of micro-enterprise initiatives; and reach micro-enterprise programs that are not able to tap into national and regional training conferences.Funding will support objectives that include providing funding to established SMAs to engage in policy activities at the state level; assisting emerging SMAs to increase their organizational capacity; and helping SMAs develop media advocacy skills.Recent activities included awarding 21 grants to SMAs; organizing an annual meeting of SMAs; developing a Web site to share information and resources among SMAs; consolidating best practices, strategies and resources for SMAs in a quarterly series; and working with SMAs to integrate Individual Development Accounts with state micro-enterprise policy.
