About this grant

Since 1994, the Russian Center for Citizenship Education has promoted and employed the "Civic Forum" methodology — an issues-oriented, dialogue-based approach to address public policy in Russia. The primary purpose of these discussions was to train people in communities to frame local public policy issues and identify solutions.Multiyear funding will enable the center to develop community-wide activities to facilitate citizen interaction with local government structures; and implement a community development process in four new Russian communities. Recent achievements included assisting three Russian communities to use a more systematic approach to citizen engagement; providing training to local community activists in the three Russian communities; and launching the "Our Town" project in the Siberian cities of Norilsk, Kamensk-Uralsky and Abakan.
