About this grant

Northwest Russia is currently experiencing an economic growth rate that far exceeds the national average. Saint Petersburg, the closest major Russian city to "the West," is the leading center of cultural and intellectual activity. However, although the city has a vibrant nonprofit sector, its non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are in need of a structure that can provide broad representation and advocate for the interests of the nonprofit sector as a whole.Multiyear funding will support activities that include conducting research and analysis work on the state of the nonprofit sector and its needs in Northwest Russia; establishing and developing cooperation among NGOs, businesses and local government authorities; providing ongoing training courses for NGOs; cooperating with the Agency of Social Information in creating a regional social information network in Northwest Russia; and developing a new strategic plan. The Saint Petersburg NGO Development Centre, established in 1994, provides NGOs throughout Northwest Russia with training, consulting and information services.
