About this grant

The Salesian Missions have been providing education and technical training to poor children around the globe since 1947. The Salesians began its work to establish vocational training and youth empowerment centers across Tanzania in 1980. They are now interested in expanding their vocational training to address the energy access deficit in Tanzania. Tanzania’s national electric grid reaches very few people, with only seven percent of its rural populations having access to electricity. To reach the rural areas, it is crucial that there are adequate technical skills to help develop, sustain, and maintain off-grid solar electric assets deployed to these areas. Through this grant, the grantee and its Don Bosco training centers in Tanzania will expand their electrician training in two sites to include a three-year certificate program in solar electric training, to develop technicians, innovators, and entrepreneurs for the off-grid solar energy sector.
