About this grant

For almost twenty years, the greater Los Angeles area supported four community organizations affiliated with the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF). In 2004 – after a massive reorganization – ONE LA was launched to serve as a single broad-based organization with a metropolitan-wide strategy for civic renewal.Multiyear funding will support ONE LA’s efforts to replicate aspects of the Texas Alliance Schools model, as well as other interventions to improve student performance in the Los Angeles region. Since 2000, the Southern California Education Fund has been promoting the education reform work of the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) in California. Accomplishments included establishing a cooperative working relationship with the superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District; recruiting the United Teachers of Los Angeles to become a member of ONE LA; and advocating for additional schools and more classroom space for the city’s overcrowded schools.
