About this grant

While the availability and quality of afterschool programs has increased, demand still far exceeds supply. In order to sustain successful afterschool programs, there is a need for coordinated and collaborative efforts across many public and private sectors. Statewide afterschool networks can serve as vehicles for bringing together individuals and organizations interested in improving outcomes for children and youth through school-based/school-linked afterschool programs and school-community partnerships.Multiyear funding will enable the Missouri Afterschool Partnership (MAP) to create a statewide afterschool network to foster statewide, regional and local partnerships; secure resources needed to sustain new and existing afterschool programs; and ensure that afterschool programs across the state are of high quality and provide opportunities for both youth development and academic enrichment. Specific activities will include forging new partnerships and coalitions; creating and implementing a strategic communications plan to raise awareness of and commitment to developing and funding high quality afterschool programs throughout Missouri; and developing a mentorship and peer-to-peer support system. The State of Missouri, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is the administrative arm of the State Board of Education. MAP was formed to develop and implement an integrated and strategic system for afterschool programs. This is one of eight grants to support statewide afterschool networks receiving technical assistance from Mott grantees.
