About this grant
The Tides Center sponsors and provides financial and human services and administrative oversight to nearly 200 projects nationwide that fit in three program areas: 1) community development and services; 2) environment and health; and 3) policy, strategy, and global initiatives. This grant continues support for the Philanthropic Initiative for Racial Equity, a program of the Tides Center. The program’s goal is to build the amount and effectiveness of resources aimed at combating institutional and structural racism through capacity building, education, and convening grantmakers and grantseekers. Since it began in 2003, the program has engaged hundreds of foundation representatives in discussions of racial equity focusing specifically on how they can advance the mission of achieving racial equity through their philanthropic organizations. In 2011-12, the program will continue to conduct workshops with regional, issue-based, and identity-based funder networks; provide assistance to the Racial Justice Funders Roundtable; and develop new projects that place a greater emphasis on increasing the effectiveness of resources aimed at eradicating institutional and structural racism.
