About this grant

Currently in its 10th year, the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative was created to strengthen the contributions of state-level organizations in policy debates by enhancing their ability to improve the balance and quality of fiscal policy discussions, and ultimately to improve the policy outcomes for the most vulnerable members of society. Organizations participating in the initiative analyze critical budget and tax issues; help policymakers and others understand fiscal policy; and disseminate information that can be used to shape policies that affect the lives of low-income families.Funding will enable the organization to analyze income trends in Idaho, including the effects of taxes; prepare analyses for upcoming budget cuts versus revenue-increase debates; update the state’s annual budget chart book; support more transparent and accountable budget and tax decisionmaking and greater citizen participation; and explore ways to expand its work through the growing Spanish radio networks in Idaho.Activities during the past two years included producing information about the state’s working poor and the growing gap between rich and poor; developing a basic budget chart book; encouraging more transparent budget and tax decisionmaking processes; and conducting education workshops on tax and budget issues for the general public.
