About this grant
As the field of philanthropy constantly changes, there is an increased need for in-depth continuing education for foundation officers and decisionmakers. Michigan is home to many philanthropic foundations, including several large ones, whose professionals could benefit from advanced instruction.Funding will support the development of a series of one-day sessions to provide foundation professionals with opportunities to broaden their knowledge of grantmaking, resources available and current issues facing the field. Planning activities will include convening a roundtable meeting with Michigan-based foundation leaders to gain their perspectives and priorities regarding continuing education needs; conducting on-site focus groups; and compiling existing state-of-the-art knowledge on continuing education and career development opportunities for foundation professionals. The Nonprofit and Public Management Center, a collaboration of the University of Michigan Schools of Business, Public Policy, and Social Work, endeavors to advance and promote understanding of the contributions of nonprofit and public organizations and the challenges of leading them successfully.
