About this grant

In 1997, Mott entered into a unique public-private partnership with the U.S. Department of Education to support the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) initiative, a school reform effort designed to provide additional academics, learning opportunities that complement the school day, mentoring for young people, life-long learning opportunities for community members and a safe place to support these activities during out-of-school hours. Mott funds, totaling $100 million over seven years, have supported training and technical assistance, identification of promising practices, evaluation, access and equity concerns, policy development and public will. Funding will support objectives that include assessing the progress of the afterschool movement since the Mott-U.S. Department of Education partnership; evaluating Mott’s contribution to the afterschool movement since 1998; examining Mott’s pre-1998 and post-1998 work in community education and afterschool programs; and providing recommendations for future directions.
