About this grant

The Community Development Unit conducts training for non-governmental organizations in South Africa’s Eastern Cape province. Training programs involve organizational development and project development and training for social service nonprofit organizations.Multiyear funding will enable the organization to provide training and capacity building to nonprofits working in the health sector focusing on teamwork and leadership, financial management, project management and community participation in the health sector. Goals include strengthening the capacity of nonprofits to engage in the health sector; developing and distributing an effective training manual on community participation in the health sector; creating functioning community health structures in two municipalities; and establishing monitoring and evaluation systems on health delivery by clinics and health care centers.Achievements during the past two years included providing training to 21 organization from across the province; establishing partnerships and working relationships with various nonprofits in the province and other parts of the country; forging a partnership with government departments and government programs, particularly in the area of health; and conducting an extensive, independent evaluation of organizational activities.
